Weekly Menu: next steps

iPhone app, written 2026-09-28, not yet compiled. Source: dev/claude/weekly-menu-ios on the Pi.

1. Get the code onto a Mac

The Pi has no swift toolchain and Xcode only runs on macOS. From the Mac, with SSH access to the Pi:

scp -r mikerobitz@<pi-address>:/var/www/html/dev/claude/weekly-menu-ios ~/weekly-menu-ios
cd ~/weekly-menu-ios

(Or push the repo to GitHub from the Pi first and clone it. There is no remote yet.)

2. Install what the build needs

3. Generate, sign, run

xcodegen generate
open WeeklyMenu.xcodeproj
  1. In the project navigator click the blue WeeklyMenu project, then the WeeklyMenu target > Signing & Capabilities > pick your Team.
  2. Do the same for the TonightWidget target.
  3. If Xcode objects to the App Groups capability on a free account, delete the entitlements blocks from both targets in project.yml and run xcodegen generate again. The app still works; only the widget stays blank.
  4. Pick an iPhone simulator (or your phone, plugged in) in the toolbar and press Run.

Expect compile errors on the first build. The code was written without a compiler.

4. Send the errors back

In Xcode, open the Issue navigator (⌘5), select all, copy, and paste into the Claude Code session on the Pi. Or run this and paste the tail:

xcodebuild -project WeeklyMenu.xcodeproj -scheme WeeklyMenu \
  -destination 'platform=iOS Simulator,name=iPhone 15' build 2>&1 | grep -E "error:|warning: unre"

Faster: install Claude Code on the Mac and open it in ~/weekly-menu-ios. It can then build, read the errors and fix them in a loop, and run the simulator.

5. Sign in

Email and password work immediately against the live server (same account as the website). Google sign-in needs an iOS OAuth client ID first; the README in the repo has those steps.
